Summer is slippin’ away, but thank John B. Denton’s Ghost for these dang nice cooler temperatures and a little rain. Never curse rain in Texas, y’all. Time to revisit your summer bucket list and get to seein’ and doin’ that stuff your May self promised your September self would get done. Here’s our top #DEN10 events this week that’ll make your September self glad you got out-and-about town.


WEDNESDAY, August 9th

Comedy Showcase | Harvest House | 8:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Denton’s comedy scene is jumping and we couldn’t be more tickled about it, but you gotta feed the critters you wanna keep… So head out midweek to support local comics and enjoy some needed yucks with your posse.

THURSDAY, August 10th

Jessie Frye HONEY Intimate Show | Greater Denton Arts Council | 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Denton darling and Bernie Bro heartthrob Jessie Frye has new tunes in the wild and this special concert is already sold out… but y’know, just in case a pal punks out and offers you tix then you’ll know to grab ‘em up! Otherwise, you can hit up regular Thursday good bets at Killer Tacos open mic or maybe Steve’s Wine Bar Jazz and Mulberry St Cantina trivia to bide your time.

Bone Daddy’s Reopening  | Bone Daddys | 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Doesn’t it feel good to eat and drink for charity? The family-friendly BBQ joint is back open after a remodel and all proceeds will benefit Serve Denton.

FRIDAY, August 11th

Cosplay Unmasked Nerd Nite | Bearded Monk | 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Our pals at More Fun Comics & Games is sponsoring this look into DFW’s cosplay scene with a special event promoting the book “Cosplay Unmasked” by David Doub, founder of Dusk Publishing. Featuring talks by Denton filmmaker B.J Lewis of Taurian Films, FUNimation voice actress Whitney Rodgers, and ImaginaryFX costumer Kevin Lewis, this beer-fueled cause also supports local cosplay charities who visit sick kids in hospitals.

Bonnie & Clyde | Campus Theater | 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM (Aug 11-20)
Fifty years ago Denton’s Campus Theatre hosted the southwestern premiere of the 1967 movie, Bonnie and Clyde, where several of the film’s stars were in attendance at the red carpet event.  Denton Community Theatre (DCT) is thrilled to celebrate that history by producing the musical version of the dramatic story for the Campus stage (now a performing arts venue).  Directed by Daniel Bryant-Gawne, assisted by Kristen Brasher, musical direction by Benjamin Brown and choreography by Amanda Guerrero, this promises to be a fitting tribute and an exciting production. Check showtimes and tix, they will go fast!

SATURDAY, August 12th

Denton Community Market | Denton Historic Park | 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
The Denton Community Market will be offering complimentary beverages from local drink vendors - Salsa Revolution's aguas frescas and fresh-squeezed goodness from Juice Lab! Also check out the fresh veggies and Bayless-Selby House Museum! But be sure to get some’a that Saturday Jazz Brunch at the Chestnut Tree if’n you wanna do it right!

Denton Bridal Show | TWU Hubbard Hall | 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
The Denton Bridal Show features the best vendors in and around Denton County from Venues to Florists, DJs, Photographers, Officiants, Event Rentals, Caterers, and tons of raffle prizes! Free Valet Parking and a Live Fashion Show at 2 p.m. for a meager $10 to see them all in one place.

An Evening with South San Gabriel | Dans SilverLeaf | 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Pull up a chair for these Centro-Matic vets more introspective and mellow tunes, a perfect soundtrack for the closing summer.

The Eureka Effect | Andys Bar | 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Denton local fave Dieselbeast hosts a line-up of out-of-town melt-your-face metal talent in this Saturday night showcase. If it’s too loud, pard, you haven’t had enough Lone Star.

SUNDAY, August 13th

Sunday Brunch with Kind Beats | Denton Welcome Center | 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
“Sunday Brunch” is a play on words for a radio show were Kind Beats, Mikey LaCroix, DJ’s LIVE Sunday during peak brunch time who creates beats on the spot creating a fresh, hip, and cool vibe at the Discover Denton Welcome Center. The mantra for this show, as described by Kind Beats, is “tune in, kick back and relax”… But don’t neglect the Rick & Morty at BYOB watch party after dark!


Denton has plenty of other indoor stops to keep you cool when you ain’t enjoying that new Water Works Park Wave Pool or Comics in the Library or maybe an exhibit at UNT On The Square. You also still have time to catch our WDDI top picks for “Denton Summertime Fun” or maybe these “Denton Podcasts” to pass time in your cubicle or that dang long drive down the apocalyptic heckscape that is I-35.
