The fall jackets are out but happenings are still hot in the Lil’ D!! This week in #DENTONING adventures also features plenty of other fun, so here is our top #DEN10 weekly events!


THURSDAY, November 15

Boxcar Bandits | Barley and Board | 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM    
North Texas Skunkgrass power trio and friends, homegrown in Denton, TX since 2006, provide your after-work wind-down! Check out their fusion of bluegrass, old-timey western swing, and country with the sounds of string band instruments that creates their signature sound! Then scoot on down to the Civic Center for the Beaujolais & More to sample savory food and flavors!

FRIDAY, November 16th

November Swing Dance | 207 W Hickory St | 8:00 PM - 11:59 PM  
Come swing dance with cool cats and kittens! 
8pm-9pm: Beginner East Coast Swing Lesson 
9pm-12am: DJ'd SOCIAL DANCE! 
$7.00 CASH ONLY for non-members for the Basic Lesson and Dance.
$5.00 CASH ONLY for members for the Basic Lesson and dance (valid with $25.00 Denton Swing Membership or Affiliate Membership).  

SATURDAY, November 17th

Little Shop of Horrors | Campus Theater | 7:30 PM + Sun matinee   
A love story rooted in world domination, this musical-comedy sci-fi hybrid of a show is about a timid floral shop assistant, Seymour, who discovers a sinister new plant from outer space that he names Audrey II, in honor of his sweet co-worker who has terrible taste in boyfriends. While the addition of this “strange and unusual” plant brings desperately needed business into the struggling shop, the cost of keeping it thriving is pretty steep, indeed!  Book by Howard Ashman; Music by Alan Menken; Lyrics by Howard Ashman; Based on the film by Roger Corman, screenplay by Charles Griffith; Directed by Travis Barth and Sean Frith. Denton Community Market | Denton County Historic Park | 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM  
The beloved Denton Community Market is the best way to ring in Saturdays, with all kinds of nifty crafty swag, produce, veggies, food, tours of the Bayless-Selby House, and live music! Browsing always pairs nicely with Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square.

36th Annual Turkey Roll| Immaculate Conception Catholic Church | 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM  
Work off those Thanksgiving calories before you take a single bite at the Kiwanis Club Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally! This yearly bike race has variable lengths (anywhere from 8 miles to 68 miles!) on the Saturday before Thanksgiving Day, with all proceeds benefiting the programs of the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club, which includes sponsorship of eight youth leadership clubs (Circle K, Key Club, Builders Club) and their Tiny Libraries project, which provides books for school-aged children!

Transgender Story Time| North Branch Library | 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
It's Transgender Awareness Week, and what better way to celebrate diversity and community than with a fun story time at the library! People from Denton's transgender community will read age appropriate children's books that share a message of love, friendship, honesty, and inclusion -- all values that we can get behind! We will be in the children's section of the library, so stop by and enjoy some heartwarming stories!

I Come As 1 But Stand as 10,000| GDAC | 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM  
This new exhibit features works by renowned Columbia, South Carolina artist Tyrone Geter. In his works Geter explores the struggles and hardships women of color have to face globally. Geter’s pieces are inspired his mother and her life of dealing with the racism, intolerance, and poverty of 20th century in America. Geter’s works celebrate women and their stories by making them the focal point of his pieces, but avoids the objectification of his female subjects. You can also check out the On North Texas photography exhibit, and Under Tension while you’re there.

The Beast Within Art Show | Backyard On Bell | 6:00 PM – 11:55 PM  
The Beast Within is an interactive art and music show featuring over 30 local artists who have been asked to design a piece representative of their Spirit Animal. The BYOB krewe also has a killer music line up for y’all so observe and report! There’s also a Sleep Out Denton event in Quakertown Park for you campers and activists.

SUNDAY, November 18th

Transgender Awareness Panel | DUUF |2:00 PM - 4:00 PM  
Panelists all come from diverse backgrounds and will offer their unique and beautiful perspectives on what it means to be trans in Texas, and ways that the community can rise up to support equality in the face of so much disinformation and fear. Questions will be taken from the audience and the event will be moderated by Amber Briggle. FREE and open to the public, with a reception to follow. Childcare is provided upon request. 

Sunday Supper | The Chestnut Tree | 6:30 PM –8:30 PM  
The chefs will be serving a five course dinner with five different chilled sakes. Cost is $75 per person. Seating is limited for this unique event and reservations are required. Then grab a nightcap with jazz at the Paschall Bar!
